The Confluence Staff &
Board of Directors

Meet the faces behind your local, nonprofit art gallery!

Executive Director

Teresa Mitchell joined The Confluence staff in 2022 and joined senior leadership team as Associate Director in 2024. With her background as former co-owner of Rocking Horse Bakery where she maintained all administrative aspects of the business, Teresa is well-appointed to oversee the business administration of The Confluence. Teresa’s nonprofit experience includes her tenure as a teacher at The Bush School in Seattle, Washington, where she taught middle school English and led multi-day experiential learning excursions in the Methow Valley, the southwest, and the United Kingdom. As Program Director for the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, Teresa oversaw site-based and school programs as well as summer camps and adult education. While at VINS, Teresa developed partnerships with a number of nonprofit organizations including New Hampshire Audubon Society, the Student Conservation Corps, the Connecticut River Watershed Alliance, and Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business. Teresa currently serves on the board of the Methow Housing Trust and is a former board member of New England’s State-Wide Environmental Education Programs. Other nonprofit experience includes volunteer work on the grant review committee for United Way, co-chair of the K-12 Sector of the US Partnership: UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development, and a member of the Education and Recreation Committee of the Friends of the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, the organization that oversees the care and management of the entire Connecticut River watershed. Teresa has lived in the Methow since 2010 and enjoys hiking in the hills, tending her garden, writing, cooking, and participating in the growing sustainable fashion movement through her business, Upfashioned.

Executive Director, Betsy Fetherston

Artistic Director

Betsy Fetherston joined The Confluence as executive director in the fall of 2022. Her list of credentials includes both commercial and nonprofit gallery experience after owning the Fetherston gallery, and later as the Director of the nonprofit Columbia City Gallery, a program of Southeast Effective Development. At the Fetherston Gallery, Betsy represented and supported the careers of over 30 Northwest and National contemporary artists, both emergent and mid-career. She was a member of the Seattle Art Dealers Association and involved in the Capitol Hill community. In addition, she oversaw two major gallery space renovations and collaborated with other art organizations throughout the Puget Sound Region.

During her tenure at Columbia City Gallery, the gallery partnered regularly with other nonprofit arts organizations such as Pratt Fine Art Center Art, the Pacific Northwest African American Quilters Association, and PATH with Art. She was also an active member of the Columbia City Business Association. One of the most exciting similarities between The Columbia City Gallery and The Confluence is their three visual arts programs: a network of exhibit artists, a gift shop sourced from local artists, and a Community Gallery.

For most of my career I have helped to foster and support visual artists. I thoroughly enjoy working with and learning from creatives of all types. Being part of these creative communities has been what makes my work so enjoyable. I look forward to joining The Confluence, learning from and supporting the community, and being a part of its future.
— Betsy, on her role at The Confluence

Creative Coordinator

Ilsa Rose-Witt who goes by Gus, is a Theatre Arts graduate from the University of Idaho, and has her own visual arts practice. Gus has lived in Omak most of her life, but has also ventured out for various opportunities for work and travel; her most notable being as an actor in Wyoming, a traveler in New Zealand, and as a road trip guide throughout the US. In particular, she is interested in outreach and accessibility. She is ready to spark conversations between people from all different backgrounds over common interests. When not working, Gus can be found doing her best Marmot impression in the mountains.
