WE ARE HERE

A celebration of the LGBTQAI+ community of North Central Washington

LGBTQAI+ people have always been here, intertwined within families, communities, and the beautiful wilderness surrounding us all.

Photographer Casey Orr traveled with Laura Gunnip from Fireweed Print Shop with their curious and colorful pop-up portrait studio collaborating with queer communities across the region.

Alongside the portraits, (UN)SPOKEN gathers the stories of LGBTQ+ adults 65 and older who have called the Methow home for a decade or more. Together, image and word ask the same question: what does it look like to be queer, rural, and rooted here?

Over 200 snapshots were submitted by folks across the region to create a tapestry of families, pets and celebrations; people enjoying the beautiful region we all love.

To be photographed, to be heard and witnessed is to say:

WE ARE HERE.

WE ARE ALL HERE.

Curated By: Laura Gunnip and Maddie Morgan with Celia Gottlieb
